At a time when the use of LEDs and their evaluation are becoming paramount, AMPAS and the IMAGO TC (ITC) are pleased to invite you to this event.
This seminar aims to examine issues surrounding spectral power measurements throughout the workflow, which are particularly relevant to LED lighting. It will feature a presentation on SSI by George Joblove (Senior Director, Technology and Standards, The Academy) followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.

Alex Forsythe | USA
Moderator of the seminar
Alex Forsythe currently serves as Director of Imaging Technology for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
During his 16 years at the Academy, he’s acted as technical lead, manager, and individual contributor on projects such as ACES and the Solid-State Lighting project developing technology to help drive standards in the motion picture industry. Alex led the teams which received a Primetime Engineering Emmy in 2012 and the SMPTE Workflow Systems Medal in 2022. He is author of numerous SMPTE standards and serves on the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC-36. Alex is an Associate Member of the Imago Technical Committee and a Member of the Hollywood Chapter of the Colorist Society International (CSI). Prior to his time at the Academy, he served as an engineer at Intel and in Eastman Kodak’s Research Labs where he focused on developing color imaging systems.
George Joblove | USA
George Joblove is Senior Director of Technology and Standards at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Prior to joining Academy staff, he was principal of Prima Lumina Consulting, providing expertise in the application of digital-imaging production and postproduction technology. Previously George co-founded and led the digital-effects department of Industrial Light & Magic, extending ILM’s leadership position in visual effects into the digital realm, and later held technology-management roles at several other studios. He was Chief Technology Officer of Sony Imageworks, and went on to serve as Executive Vice President of Advanced Technology for Sony Pictures Entertainment.
George is an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and a member of the motion-picture Academy and the Visual Effects Society. He received a Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for his early work in digital visual effects. He attended the École Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique et de Mathématiques Appliquées de Grenoble (France), and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University.
Frieder Hochheim | USA
Founder of Kino Flo Lighting Systems.
Prior to Kino Flo, Frieder was a lighting gaffer for movies and commercials. Specialty in lighting miniatures. Directly involved in product development of fluorescent and LED lighting and the color science of LED technologies and Virtual Production solutions.
Nils de Montgrand | France
Member of Rosco’s Executive team – Vice President of LED lighting Products & Engineering
Nils de Montgrand has been developing and bringing LED products to market for more than 18 years. He co-founded DMG Lumière in 2014, which was acquired by Rosco in October 2017.
Marc Galerne | France
K5600 Lighting Europe President
Marc Galerne worked in the cinematographic world for over 40 years. After working at Lee Filters in 1977, he joined LTM then Victorine Studios in Nice France. In 1992 he started K5600 Lighting with his father Jean and his brother Gilles. Based in L.A, K5600 Lighting is well known for the Joker and Alpha range.
Julian White | UK
Gaffer
Born in 1966 to Italian/English parents Julian grew up until the age of 10 in Senegal, Sweden and India. After studying painting at Liverpool Art School in the late 80’s he lived for three years in Andalusia, Southern Spain.
With several year’s experience in stage lighting and design as well as shooting for performance art groups he “joined” the film industry in the lighting department.
Over the last 25 years he has been chief lighting technician on 40 feature films and continues to follow his love of painting.

Uwe GREINER | Germany
Gaffer, ICLS
Uwe has been working in the lighting department for over 25 years, more than 15 years as a gaffer. Although he has contributed to many television series and over 100 commercials, his main experience has been with feature films. Over the years he has supported productions in more than 15 countries with DPs from all over the world. His expertise is in understanding the DP’s vision and in the specific planning and support of extended sets.
Felix Hüsken | Germany
Freelance Senior Colorist, BVK, CSI and ISF-certified Display Calibrator –
He is passionate about Color Management and HDR workflows and regularly passes on his knowledge as a Lecturer and Consultant. In 2022, Felix was proudly voted onto the board of the German Society of Cinematographers (BVK) as a Colorist – a first in the society’s history.
Timothy S. Kang | USA
Cinematographer ASC Associate member
Tim S. Kang, a NY and LA-based cinematographer, works in the motion picture industry on narrative, commercial, music video, and documentary projects. He also serves as principal engineer of color and imaging for Quasar Science, a Videndum Production Solutions lighting solutions company. In this capacity, he co-founded and chairs the Lighting Committee for the American Society of Cinematographers’ Motion Imaging Technology Council.
John Christian Rosenlund | Norway
Cinematographer, FNF
At the age of 17, he started as a cinematographer on documentaries, mainly for the international Oil industry. At the age of 21 and made his living by directing and shooting music videos and commercials. At 29, he landed his first feature as cinematographer.
Besides more than 25 film-awards and nominations for cinematography, 6 of John’s films have been Norway’s Oscar candidates. He has also won the Amanda (“Norwegian Oscar”), The Norwegian Film Critics Association award, Emmy for “16 days of Glory”, “The Golden Clapperboard”, Kodak “Camera Man of the Year” twice and “The Aamot Statuette” (one of the highest ranking awards in the film industry, Norway), and FNF / The Norwegian Society of Cinematographers honorary Award for 2017.
Works with directors as Erik Poppe, Harald Zwart, Per-Olav Sørensen, Bent Hamer, Martin Campbell, Thaddeus O’Sullivan, Erik Skjoldbjerg, Jens Lien, Marius Holst, Morten Tyldum and Roar Uthaug.
Alongside his work as award-winning Cinematographer, he has been a leading force in developing of new tools for the film industry. John Chr. is Founder of: Drylab Media Tech. Leading metadata-based Dailies Content Software for the International film industry. Softlights, the first and only both digital Wi-Fi and DMX controlled Tube light system. Remotion, the world first pan-bar operated system ever made. ITC active full member. Over the last 25 years he has been Cinematographer on 46 feature films and TV shows.
David Stump | USA
Cinematographer, ASC, MITC, ITC co-chair
David Stump brings over 25 years of experience as a Producer, Director, Director of Photography, Visual Effects Director of Photography, Visual Effects Supervisor and Effects Cameraman. He has extensive experience in high-definition film and video photography, content creation, CGI and visual effects production. He has won an Emmy Award and an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement.
He is a full member of the American Society of Cinematographers, where he currently serves as Chair of the Camera Subcommittee of the ASC Technical Committee. He was also the founder of camera and equipment company Motion Control Rental Services.
He has photographed and supervised VFX work for every major studio and many independent production studios on feature film projects including James Bond 22 – A Quantum of Solace, Into the Blue, The Game of Their Lives, Garfield, X-Men 2, Sizzling Kung Fu Mice, Panic Room, The Bourne Identity, The One, Men of Honor, Pluto Nash, Hollow Man, X-Men, Navy Diver, Deep Blue Sea, Stuart Little, Soldier, Blade, U.S. Marshals, The Sphere, Contact, Batman & Robin, Mars Attacks!, Star Trek First Contact, and many others.

Aleksej Berkovic was born in 1961 at Kazakhstan, cinematographer with distinct technical accent. Graduated from VGI Moscow based All-Union State Institute of
Cinematography) in 1983. Shot feature films in Russia, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, and UK. Founder of Mark-II productions which is over 30 years in the market, founder and Creative Director of several Advertising Agencies.
From the year 2002 employed by Dedo Weigert Film company in Munich, Germany. It is a great pleasure and honor to work with legendary Dedo Weigert, cinematographer, inventor, developer and manufacturer of various lighting tools, optical and mechanical systems, special “toys” for the joy of cinematographers and enrichment of cinematography visual storytelling language.
Within 20 years participating in various fields of Visual arts technology developments, including cameras, special 3D tools for Phantom 65. With fantastic
colleagues like Raffael Pollack making various architectural, museum and studio designs.
Aleksej Berkovic providing Studio designs all over the world for Television and technical designs for Cinematography and VFX studios. Developing elements of production and post-production workflows.
In the year 2021, he was elected as Co-Chairman of IMAGO Technical Committee.
Philippe Ros | France
Cinematographer AFC, ITC co-chair
Philippe Ros is a graduate of the French National Film School Louis Lumiere.
It was an American production that gave him the chance to start his professional career as a cinematographer on the ‘’Yellow Jersey’’ – working in cinemascope, from a motorcycle during the Tour de France and using two 35 mm cameras customized by Joe Dunton MBE, BSC in London. He specialized in hand-held camera and ergonomics issues and is fully acquainted with the digital shooting systems and the related post-production workflows. He spent a third of his last 25 years in grading suite and post-production research departments.
He was Digital Imaging Director and cinematographer for five years on Oceans, a film directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud.
He was Digital Imaging Supervisor on Home directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
For television, he was the cinematographer of the first five seasons of the series Kaamelott, directed by Alexandre Astier. He achieved a European tour of 17 capitals to show a series of 3 short demo films, shot in 4K, which was screened all over the world and became a reference in 4K digital workflow.
Recently he was an advisor and a consultant during for months for Newen production to redesign the workflow, the camera sand electrical systems for a TV series.
