Peter was not only an outstanding cinematographer but also a great warmhearted person of attitude. His noble modesty belied the fact that he was an essential pillar in the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers (HSC). With all his might, he successfully campaigned for his colleagues. When the HSC, in the person of Tibor Vagyóczky, assumed the IMAGO presidency, it was Peter Dubovitz who, as Vice President in the background, led IMAGO through a period of crisis.
Peter was not a loud person, but when he spoke up, he always had crucial things to say. He also had an extensive and admirable education that kept flashing in his unerring bon mots. During our visits to Budapest, he always gave us a sense of home and was often a welcome guest of the AAC in Vienna. His German was flawless. Like no other, he embodied the fruitful and friendly axis between HSC and AAC, almost in the spirit of the old Austro-Hungarian monarchy. It can be assumed that the current political development in Hungary has burdened him heavily.
Our thoughts are with his daughter, whom he loved dearly.
Peter, this epitome of competence, nobility and humanity leaves a big gap, because personalities of his format are urgently needed right now…
