BSC SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2019
IMAGO for uniting cinematographers around the world
During the 70th Anniversary gala and BSC Awards event, IMAGO was bestowed the prestigious BSC Special Achievement Award.
«Cinematographers have always loved to share stories, techniques and advice, and to meet other cinematographers to discuss their art and craft. Starting with the ASC in America and followed, 70 years ago this year, by the BSC in Great Britain most countries now have flourishing societies that promote this most important and central craft of cinema.

In these uncertain times, with inward looking nationalism rearing its ugly head, it is more important than ever that like-minded people across the globe come together to share their knowledge, inspire each other and elevate the craft of telling stories through moving pictures that can be seen and understood throughout the world: the art of cinematography.
The organisation we honour today was founded in Rome in 1992. The BSC, together with the BVK, the AFC and the AIC were founder members. Since then it has grown exponentially and currently has 53 member societies, representing 4,300 professional cinematographers worldwide.
This is powerful evidence of the desire of cinematographers to be part of an organisation that is international, open and inclusive.
Tonight’s BSC Special Achievement Award recognises the creation of a global umbrella for these societies and the extraordinary time and effort of all involved in linking them together to promote and protect the art and craft of Cinematographers around the world.
The award goes to IMAGO and we invite the founder and first president Luciano Tovoli and the current President Paul Rene Roestad to the stage to receive this award.»

A great honour for all those over hundred cinematographers having used their time and energy since our Federation was established in 1992, and has contributed so much to what IMAGO is today.
And not least, an inspiration for all of those who currently work for IMAGO, to carry on the good work and intensify their effort for international cinematographers to communicate, to exchange knowledge and experience, and to discuss and find solutions to challenges that concerns us all.
All of us in IMAGO are deeply honoured, and we send our warmest gratitude to the Board of the British Society of Cinematographers, for this important recognition and most valuable support.
