‘Massive backwards step’: Australia to no longer have a federal arts department
In recent days the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Scott Morrison MP announced a decision that means there will no longer be a designated Federal Arts Ministry in Australia, that it will now be part off the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, not even a mention of the Arts. Please, click HERE and like me, be absolutely astounded that a Government could even consider taking these steps and downgrade the importance of the Arts Ministry.
Where do these decisions without consultation come from?
Our industry and all those who are part of the Arts need to contact immediately the Office of the Prime Minister, your local Government and Opposition members and state your case clearly and succinctly given this is a travesty that cannot be accepted.
This will be discussed at the next meeting of the Australian Screen Industry Guilds and collectively we will determine a course of action.
