The 2024 edition of CineCampus at Terre di Cinema is set to be a landmark event, continuing its mission of imparting the culture, values, and discipline of shooting on film to the new generation of filmmakers from around the world. Year by year, Terre di Cinema has been dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of film, offering an unparalleled educational experience centered on the unique challenges and rewards of working with film stock.
Founded by Vincenzo Condorelli AIC in 2011 under the guidance and inspiration of Luciano Tovoli AIC, ASC, who also serves as Honorary President, Terre di Cinema has grown into a premier international gathering for filmmakers passionate about the craft. The festival’s core mission is not just to teach the technical aspects of shooting on film but to instill in participants the rich cultural heritage and disciplined approach that is essential to this art form.
Terre di Cinema has been created under the banners of AIC, The Italian Society of Cinematographers, and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Italy’s prestigious national film school. In 2021, the BVK, German Society of Cinematographers, also became a vital partner, further enhancing the Programme’s international scope. Additionally, IMAGO, the European Federation of Cinematographers, offers its patronage, underscoring the event’s significance in the global cinematographic community.
The 2024 edition is made possible through the essential support of a prestigious pool of technical partners who share our commitment to the art of filmmaking. Kodak Motion Picture Film continues to be Terre di CInema’s fundamental partner, providing the film stock that lies at the heart of the CineCampus experience. Other essential partners include Cooke Optics, Panalight, ARRI, De Sisti Lighting, Nanlite, Nanlux, and Augustus Color Lab.
CineCampus 2024 is also supported by the Comune di Siracusa and the Siracusa Film Commission, who have provided access to the city’s stunning historical and natural locations. Siracusa, one of Italy’s most visited cities, offers a breathtaking backdrop for the 14 short films (12 in 35mm and 2 in s16mm) that will be produced by the 40 participating students (directors and camera persons) over the 16 days of the course.
This year, AIC enriches the CineCampus activities with masterclasses from acclaimed professionals like Daniele Massaccesi and Luciano Tovoli and the overall supervision by Vincenzo Condorelli. The BVK will be represented by Johannes Kirchlechner BVK, who will serve as the Cinematography Tutor, and Martin Bethge BVK, the Camera Operators Tutor, along with Mitch Boxrucher BVK, who will focus on the specific use of s16mm film.
In addition to the valuable contributions from cinematographers, we are honored to have Fabio Policastro, a highly experienced Gaffer, who will bring his expertise in lighting and on-set practices to guide students in mastering the technical intricacies of film production.
Among other distinguished guests are Alessandra Pescetta, an innovative Italian director known for her work in both film and video art, and Nayla Al Khaja, the first female director from the United Arab Emirates, who is also a renowned producer. Their presence will undoubtedly inspire and enrich the learning experience for all students.
This year’s CineCampus is truly a global affair, with participants hailing from over 20 countries, including the United States, Japan, Singapore, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and many more. This diverse group of filmmakers will bring a wealth of cultural perspectives, making the CineCampus a melting pot of ideas and creativity, reflective of the international spirit that Terre di Cinema has fostered since its inception.
CineCampus 2024 at Terre di Cinema promises to be an extraordinary journey into the heart of filmmaking, where tradition meets innovation, and where the timeless craft of shooting on film is celebrated and passed on to the next generation of storytellers.
