A new sign in Cinematography? awards 2018

Congratulations to our members Łukasz Żal, PSC, Robbie Ryan, BSC, ISC, Seamus MacGarvey ASC BSC and to Linus Sandgren FSF ASC for their nominations. The IMAGO International Awards for Best Cinematography that will be announced on 10th of February and the winners will known in 16th of March in Belgrade.

At the beginning of every year the Awards come to bring us some warmth to the cold winter of the North hemisphere. The cinematography nominations for BAFTA, ASC, OSCARS and BSC do not differ so much from each other so much. It is traditional that these awards are more or less in sync in terms of the nominated titles. The most nominated films are: Łukasz Żal, PSC for «Cold War» , Robbie Ryan, BSC, ISC for «The Favourite» and Alfonso Cuarón for «Roma» are nominated in all of the 4 contests.

This repeated nominations is not new. What we find inovative is to have a nomination of a simultaneous director/  cinematographer for the category of cinematography. As far we can remember this is something new. In the last camerimage feature length competition also director Paul Thomas Anderson joined the competition with Alfonso Cuarón with the title Phantom Thread in the competition line-up. Both combinig the work as director and cinematographers simultaneously. This is a new sign that we will certainly going to witness more often. It is not a new fact indeed but it is for the award nominations in the field of cinematography. A sign that is no longer an exclusive club for cinematographers.
