We are happy to announce that IMAGO will be presenting to the new EU Commissioners its priorities concerning the status, working conditions and diversity and inclusion of cinematographers! This is an incredible opportunity to improve the social situation of cinematographers by demanding new parameters for filmmaking.
The new EU Parliament has started its work in the week of 2. September, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen unveiled her new team of 26 Commissioners-designate on 17 September. The European Parliament public hearings to evaluate each Commissioner-designate are scheduled to take place between October 14 and 18, 2024. Although there has been some criticism of the reorganization of posts, a significant number of committees are relevant to the areas of interest on IMAGO’s agenda: culture, employment, social affairs, women’s rights, gender equality and inclusion, education, environment, etc.
Regarding working conditions and gender equality IMAGO has started this year a survey to foster equality, diversity and fairness in the audiovisual sector.
So far, we’ve had 543 responses to the questionnaire, which is great! (See the annexed document). However, we’re still short of the aim of 700 responders.
We know we are all busy, but, please, if you haven’t already done so, take a moment to fill out the Survey. (link below)
We really need to be able to evaluate this report NOW, publish it and pass it on to each commissioner who will be tasked with implement the Commissions President’s vision for the next five years. Employment and social affairs will be covered, for example, by Commissioner-designate and Executive Vice-President for People, Skills and Preparedness, Roxana Minzatu (Romania), for the domain of culture, it is Glenn Micallef (Malta), whose portfolio also includes youth and sports, and intergenerational fairness.
One quick thing to check: does your country have representation in this survey, or not enough? If not, please help us out by filling in the survey! This is very important for the progress of the important work IMAGO does to improve working conditions.
Here is the link to the survey/questionnaire we need you to fill out if you have not already done so:
